The Peewee AE Crusaders may not have Mother Nature on their side, but that doesn’t seem to matter. The Crusaders opened their Quarter Final Playdown series with a 9-1 win over the Centre Hasting Grizzlies.

Fueled by the promise of PB&J snacks at the next game, the team held off any Grizzly attempt in our end and took a commanding 6-1 lead into the dressing room after the 2nd period. Another 3 goals in the 3rd sealed the win.

The second game of the series goes this weekend and the boys are looking for a repeat performance

The Durham Crusaders had a fantastic time at the Pelham Silver Stick International Finals in Niagara Falls this pat weekend.

The team started strong with a 6-0 Win over Aviator Hockey from NYC. Later that day the Crusaders skated to a 2-2 tie vs Sarnia Jr Sting. On Friday the team beat the Strathroy Rockets 3-1. The Crusaders finished 1st in their pool and were entered into the Tier 1 finals facing the top tiered AE1 teams.

The Quarter Final game saw the Crusaders up 3-1 over the Tillsonburg Tornadoes. Due to some questionable penalties the Tornadoes had a 6 on 3 opportunity and scored. They scored again on another powerplay and tied the game sending it to a sudden death shoot-out. Alex O stopped all 3 Tillsonburg players and Jackson EH scored for the Crusaders to advance to the semi finals.

The semi-final game saw the Crusaders face the Oakville Ranges. The Rangers came in outscoring their opponents 30-3 in the first 4 games. The cRusaders played a strong game that ended in a 4-4 tie after the regulation periods. The game went into double OT with a 4 on 4 format. The Rangers scored in the double OT to advance to the finals where they beat the Barrie Colts 3-1.

The Crusaders finished 3rd in the Top Tier. 216 Canadian and American teams started the Silver Stick quest.

We are extremely proud of the level of play, teamwork and sportsmanship the boys exhibited during the tournament.
